Photographers' Week on Mount Desert Island, ME - September 25th through 29th, 2014
September is the best time to visit Mount Desert Island (MDI) in Maine. The days are warm, the evenings are pleasantly cool, and the night sky is clear. With less people and traffic, it is easy to get to the scenic points of interest on the island. Fall foliage is often at its peak, making MDI a photographer's paradise. Dropping in for a popover at the Jordan Pond House is easily done, even without a reservation. MDI is also one of the best locations in the Northeast for night sky photography, thanks to the Bar Harbor Dark Sky Ordinance, which limits the amount of artificial light pollution at night.
You are invited to join me for a Photographers' Weekend on Mount Desert Island from Thursday, September 24th though Monday, September 29th, coinciding with the annual Acadia Night Sky Festival.
Planned highlights include:
Photographing along Acadia National Park's scenic Park Loop Road
Photographing the sunrise and sunset from the summit of Cadillac Mountain
Photographing Acadia's dark night sky from the Seawall and Cadillac Mountain
Photographing sunrise and sunset at Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse
Participating in image review sessions with like-minded photographers
We will depart Providence, RI, in the morning on Thursday, September 25, 2014, in a comfortable passenger van and will arrive in Southwest Harbor, ME, in the afternoon. Southwest Harbor is on the "quiet side" of MDI. We will explore the Seawall area of Acadia National Park and photograph the sunset at Bass Harbor Head Light before dinner. After dinner, we will explore night photography in Southwest Harbor. From Friday to Sunday (September 26 - 28), we will photograph from sunrise to sunset and beyond. We will make several trips within Acadia National Park and will sample the popovers at the Jordan Pond House. We will seek out photographic opportunities in both Bar Harbor and some of the lesser known areas of the island. You will be invited to participate in image review sessions when we regroup in the afternoon at our motel (or take a nap). We will depart for Providence after breakfast on Monday, September 29th.
This trip is limited to six photographers. A tripod will be required for marginal light photography. A remote shutter release and a headlamp are recommended. Sturdy, comfortable shoes and sensible clothing are a must.
The registration fee of $750 per person includes round-trip transportation between Providence, RI, and MDI; double accommodations at the Seawall Motel; photography instructions; and image review. Single room supplements are available for an additional fee. Make your reservation with a friend and split a savings of $50.00
To reserve your place, send a $250 deposit by July 1, 2014 to: Bob Kidd, 52 Overhill Road, Wakefield, RI 02879
I look forward to photographing with you on MDI ~ Bob
